SAFETY SERVICES NEWFOUNDLAND LABRADOR HOSTS ONE-DAY, HANDS-ON CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP IN CORNER BROOK, NL ON OCTOBER 9TH, 2014.

ST. JOHN’S – SafetyNL (SafetyNL) is happy to announce that the organization is offering a special hands-on workshop in Corner Brook, NL designed to provide participants with basic information and techniques to prepare for, respond to, and recover from traumatic events in the workplace.

This important workshop is to be facilitated by Dr. Rick Singleton, Regional Director of Pastoral Care and Ethics with Eastern Health, who will utilize his over 30 years of training and experience in the fields of counselling and critical incident stress management to discuss such topics as:

  • What is Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and why is CISM worth planning for and undertaking?
  • How to plan for and assess situations where CISM and intervention would be appropriate;
  • A discussion of the Who, When, and Where of CISM and intervention;
  • An identification of resources in the community to facilitate CISM planning, response, and recovery sessions;
  • The importance of incorporating CISM into Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity Planning;
  • Hands-on exercises based on scenarios to help your organization better understand and prepare for CISM situations.

Dr. Singleton will discuss how to better understand and appreciate post-traumatic stress, and the value of stress management as a personal, family, workplace, and community resource.

CISM is a topic that has the potential to impact virtually any business or organization in all industries and is targeted towards senior-level executives, key decision-makers, human resource professionals, and OHS management and strategic planners.

About Dr. Rick Singleton: Dr. Singleton holds a PhD in Health Ethics and a Doctor of Ministry Degree with a specialty in counselling.  He currently serves as Regional Director of Pastoral Care and Ethics with Eastern Health, as well as Director of the Provincial Health Ethics Network for Newfoundland and Labrador.  A noted professor and author, Dr. Singleton is considered an expert in the CISM field having over 30 years experience in counselling and having facilitated numerous critical incident debriefing sessions since he was initially trained in CISM in 1990.
